Canadian students who already have a university degree in any subject can study a two-year LLB/JD in the UK, known as Graduate Entry Law, Senior Status Law, or an Accelerated LLB.

This two-year Law degree covers all core modules and foundations of Law, generally allowing students to choose elective modules in the second year. A UK LLB degree is the equivalent of a Canadian Juris Doctor (JD) degree.

Law Accreditation 

To practise Law in Canada, students with LLB degrees from overseas universities will need to assess their qualifications with the National Committee on Accreditation (NCA). In order to obtain an NCA Certificate of Qualification, you will likely be required to sit further tests upon your return to Canada.

Law JD Pathway LLB 

Some UK universities offer Canadian Law specialized courses, giving Canadian students a headstart in their preparation for the NCA exams to practice Law in Canada. Recognized in England, Wales and Canada, this degree is an excellent foundation for students interested in pursuing a legal career in any of these countries. 

Studying the Law JD Pathway LLB will not exempt you from having to take an NCA examination upon returning to Canada, but the degree will prepare you for the NCA process, making it easier for you to become a certified lawyer in Canada.

Entry Requirements for a Bachelor of Laws 

A first or upper-second-class honours UK bachelor’s degree in a non-law subject or overseas equivalent. Graduates from Canadian universities will generally require either at least a B+ degree or a GPA of 2.8.
