SOAS (The School of Oriental and African Studies) is a college of the University of London and is the leading centre for Asian and Asfrican Studies in Europe. The college is situated in the centre of London in an area called Bloomsbury and forms part of the central University of London campus. It is close to many of the university facilities including the Student Union sports and leisure complex. The British Museum and British Library are nearby as well as several parks and gardens.
Pre-sessional English for Academic Purposes
Aims:
To help students improve their overall ability in English Language so that they will be able to cope with the linguistic demands of their university studies
To help students develop an understanding of the academic and cultural context of university stuidy in Britain so that they will be able to participate successfully in their degree programmes
Focus:
Reading for study
Academic writing
Listening and note-taking
Speaking for tutorials and seminars
Grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation are integrated into the course. Students receive individual feedback on all aspects of their progress during their weekly tutorials.
Courses are for 4 or 8 weeks depending on a student's needs and consist of 20 hours tuition a week. Classes are held every weekday.
